Throughout the
years the Samoans have evolved from their traditional foods like fish, coconuts
and breadfruit to more processed foreign foods like ramen noodles and wonder
bread. This evolution has presented the Samoans with more disease and obesity
than ever before. While Independent Samoa is on the track to industrialization,
American Samoa has “clearly eroded with the arrival of American Industry.” This
new diet is due to the “devaluation of traditional farming practices” and is
contributing “to an unhealthy lifestyle.”
