The
Samoan population is 177,714 people. A little over 28% of the population is
younger than 15 years old, and more than 6% are older than 65. Also, the growth
rate of Samoa is in the negatives. The prime factor of this is emigration.
Almost 93% of the population consists of Samoans, and 7% are Euronesian.
Samoa has
a variety of ethnic groups. The society consists of people from all different
places around the world. About 2000 years ago many Polynesians immigrated to
the Samoan islands from Southeast Asia. From previous times to today the
Polynesians form a major part of Samoa's population. The Samoans are the second
largest number of Polynesians.
